The County Government of Nairobi has reclaimed 18 acres of grabbed public land at the Junctions of Kiambu Road and Northern bypass.
The parcel had been set aside for development of public utilities which include markets, schools, hospitals, football pitch and social hall.
Private developers had developed two petrol stations, car bazaars, eateries, beauty shops, pharmacies, and other businesses on the land.
The operation was led by County Secretary Patrick Analo.
He said all the illegal developments on the land will be demolished.
“Recently, we demolished an illegal nursery school in Upperhill. The County Government has stopped all illegal developments on public land in Tassia, Clay City and Kimathi estate in Eastlands. We are asking the Public to inform us about any individuals they come across who are intending to grab public land,” Analo said.
Cecilia Koigu who is the Chief Officer Lands, said the County will demolish all illegal developments upon expiry of the enforcement notice issued in accordance to the Physical and land use planning Act (PLUPA 2019) and the building code.
Sakaja has put in place a task force of county officials with support from the National Lands commission, which is tasked with identifying and repossessing all public land in various parts of the city.
Land grabbers have in the past demolished County clinics and schools in Karen,Kasarani, Tassia, Mwiki, Roysambu, Kilimani, Runda and Westlands
