Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has apologized to Kenyans for flouting the Covid-19 protocols and the Curfew.
Speaking at Kilimani police station, Sakaja said he is a law-abiding citizen and he only “slipped”.
“I take responsibility. Its regrettable. All of us make mistakes,” he said.
He added that he has resigned as the Chairperson of the Senate Adhoc committee on Covid -19.
He was arrested on Friday night at “Ladys Lounge” where he was drinking in the company of friends.
He said during his arrest, some police officers assaulted him by hitting him.
Police said he resisted arret and vowed to transfer those police officer who arrested him.
He denied the claims saying they were fabricated to paint him in bad light.
His lawyers John Khaminwa and Mutula Kilonzo Junior said he had paid a cash bail of shs 10,000 and will appear in court on Tuesday.
The Senator faulted Nairobi Police Commander Philip Ndolo for sending a contingent of around 50 police officers to arrest him.
“I am not on the run. My eldest son is 8years, the second born is 6 years and my last born who is a daughter is 1 year old. Why will 50 police officers’ storm my home and threaten my young family,” he said.
Sakaja insisted that there is no club called “Lady’s Lounge” along Denis Pritt Road and the term was coined to mean he was out “practicing immorality”.
He insisted that the police had an ulterior motive and he will be vindicated in Court.
