Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has said that the County Government of Nairobi has started construction of 1800 new houses in Ngara estate.
On Thursday, Sonko said the move is a continuation of the implementation of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four Agendas.
He said the County Government is already on course with execution of affordable housing projects.
“The Nairobi City County Government in collaboration with Jabavu Ltd is preparing for groundbreaking of the affordable housing project at Jeevanjee Bachelor’s estate in Ngara area” he said.
The Governor added that already, 81 houses at Jeevanjee Bachelor’s estate have been demolished to pave way for the construction of 1,800 units.
He said once the houses are complete, the immediate former tenants will be given priority and will occupy the houses as owners.
Each tenant will be given a new house payable in 30 years at a negotiated monthly rent of Sh8,000.
Sonko said the Nairobi City County Government had already issued the Jeevanjee Bachelor’s estate tenants with tenants purchase agreement before they vacated the houses.
The affordable housing project will also be implemented in New Ngara, Pangani, Ngong Road Inspectorate staff quarters, Uhuru and Suna road estates.
