Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has lashed out at Nairobi Women’s hospital for detaining an infant’s body over unpaid 37K fees.
The Governor asked anyone who knows the baby’s mothers Janet Kamene from Makueni County to contact the Sonko Rescue team so that she can be assisted.
“I am shocked to hear that Nairobi Women’s Hospital has been detaining the body of a 1 year and 7 months old baby the Late Faith Mwende for more than 2 months since 15th December 2019. This is because her mother Janet Kamene from Makueni County cannot afford to clear the medical bill of Ksh. 37,300, “he said.
Sonko said he had received radio clips of the woman pleading for help.
The woman’s story was aired on Mbaitu and Athiani FM.
“Mama Janet Kamene has been asking for my help to get her late baby’s body and give her a decent send off. However, the woman did not leave her contacts or how we can reach her for help, “he said.
Sonko said no mother should mourn her baby for 2 months without a burial just because she can’t afford to clear a medical bill.
“This is not acceptable at all! Anyone who can help Sonko Rescue Team (SRT) reach her to assist in this case please give us her contacts,” he said.
