The Nairobi county Government has repossessed four pieces of public land that had been grabbed by private developers.
The parcels were in South C and Parklands, Nairobi.
Governor Mike Sonko revoked approvals that had been issued earlier.
He said this is to pave way for investigations into how the land was sold.
On Wednesday, Sonko visited Akiba Estate and Akiba open air market, among other areas.
Sonko said one of the pieces of land along Olive Hospital Road is a public water reservoir worth Sh5 billion.
The land has a water tank with a capacity of 11million cubic meters and can supply water to the entire Langata sub-county and parts of Kibra.
The Governor also stopped construction on two pieces of land meant for a public market and an ECDE center.
“South C has a lot of problems and that is why we are here to try and repossess land irregularly allocated to private developers at the expense of the public,” Sonko said.
Ten people have been arrested and grilled by DCI officers over their role in irregular acquisition of the land.
The 10 were arraigned in court on Wednesday.
The construction of a Mall on the land allocated for the ECDE center has also been stopped.
The Governor announced that he has temporarily stopped approval of buildings to give room for the ongoing audit in the Planning department as well as bringing sanity in the sector.
South C MCA Osman Mohamed said the residents have been frustrated by private developers who grab public spaces.
“Private developers have for many years been grabbing public land here in collusion with county officials and I thank the Governor for taking action,” he said.
The chairperson of South C Residents Association Ranjna Baraj said she has been receiving threats from private developers every time she follows up on grabbed public land.
