Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi has said Governor Mike Sonko will wither the current political storm facing him.
Speaking to K24s punchline, Elachi said City residents voted for Sonko because they understood his leadership style.
Elachi took issue with media reports that Sonko escaped from Shimo La Tewa Prison in 1998.
The Prison has said that Sonko should go back and complete his sentence.
“Sonko was cleared to vie for MP, Senator and Governor. Where were they -yet he was even cleared by a court of law. Is it today that we realize he was in Shimo La Tewa? Why bring the cases now?” she posed.
Elachi said the recent onslaught by the EACC on Governor Sonko is because of his firm stand against corruption and land grabbing in the City.
“The grabbed land in South C has a mall that is nearing completion. It belonged to a Nursery School. If indeed EACC wants us to believe it, let it help reposes the land from Rose Njeri,” she said.
She said Governor Sonko has performed better than the previous Governor and many other Governors.
Elachi added that the World Bank projects in the City are ongoing.
“As we hit Sonko, let’s not politicize the issues,” she said.
She asked Sonko not to respond to media reports where he has “been Judged and sentenced” at the same time.
Appearing on the same Show, former Nairobi Education Executive Janet Ouko criticized Governor Sonko’s leadership.
Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi said elected leaders in Nairobi have the right to oversight the County Government.
He said Nairobi MPs ae feeling the heat on undelivered political promises.
“Let’s face the issues and not character assassination,” Wanyonyi said.
