Nairobi City County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi has asked nominated Senator Millicent Omanga to stop politicizing MCA Habiba Hussein’s case.
On Tuesday evening, Senator Millicent Omanga condemned Elachi for declaring nominated MCA Habiba Hussein’s seat vacant.
This is after it emerged that Habiba Ibrahim Hussein failed to attend the plenary sittings for two years.
Elachi on Tuesday declared her seat vacant after the house adopted a report of the select committee on powers and privileges into allegations of absenteeism from plenary sitting by members.
However, women leaders led by Omanga condemned Elachi for being “insensitive” to Habiba’s suffering.
Elachi said that she received a letter dated 21st February 2020 from the DCI to the Assembly to assist in investigation over alleged corrupt appointment of MCA Habiba Mohammed and other officers at City Hall.
She said in response to DCI’s request, through the select Committee on Powers and Privileges that Habiba was removed from the payroll and vacated from her position.
Elachi said she visited MCA Habiba while she was expectant and advised her to be writing whenever she was absent- but she failed.
“I want to tell Senator Millicent Omanga to stop politicizing Habiba’s matter. I’m not aware of her sickness except pregnancy which was in 2018,” said Elachi.
Elachi said Habiba has been on a salary of Ksh 132,000 since she was sworn in 2017 but has never set foot at City Hall.
Elachi advised Senator Omanga to go court if she has any issue.
“MCA Husni Alawi who represents the disabled has been writing whenever he is not in a position to attend sessions. That’s why he did not land in trouble,” she told Hot News.
