Three people were on Tuesday charged with defrauding a businessman Sh5,000,000 in a fake gold supply scam.
Francis Njagi Ndwiga, Wilson Kihumba Githinji and Hannah Njeri were charged before Kibera senior principal magistrate Derrick Kuto.
They denied the charges.
According to the charge sheet, the offence was committed on diverse dates between 26/05/2021 and 24/07/2021.
They allegedly defrauded Mike Waruiru Mburu Sh5600,000.
According to the police report, Hannah Njeri who is a friend to the complainant approached him with a business proposal in gold business.
It is alleged that the complainant was to fund Njeri and later get a commission.
The police alleged that Mike Waruiru sent money to Njeri and even asked some of his friends to send her money with all the transactions being captured by M-PESA.
It is along the way that the complainant opted to get out of the business after parting with shs 5.6 million.
Efforts to get back his money bore no fruits and he decided to report the matter to the police.
The three were arrested.
The three however denied the charges and pleaded for a lenient bond term.
The magistrate ruled that the offence involved large sums of money and granted them a bond of Sh2million with the cash bail of the same amount.
He directed that the case proceeds on August 17 for a mention.
