Residents of Turkana County are happy that the cost of transport within the vast county has been reduced.
The residents are also happy that travel time has been shortened and there is increased connectivity.
They lauded the Kenya National Highways Authority KeNHA for building the Kawalathe bridge that was prone to flooding.
Speaking to Hot News, resident James Mariao said whenever it flooded, they were cut off from Kakuma, Lokichogio and Nadapal.
The other areas that were cut off from Lodwar town whenever it flooded at Kawalathe bridge were Kalokol and Lokitaung.
Mariao said KeNHA has built the Nasiger bridge in Kukuma and the famous Kongidei bridge.
“The other bridge that has been expanded is the bridge on Turkwel river in Lodwar Town. It used to be small but now we have a wide and strong bridge,” he said.
He said the road agency has also tarmacked the Lodwar –Ekale road where the Turkana’s hold their cultural festival of Tobong‘u Lore.
At least 15 kilometers of the Lodwar –Ekale road has been tarmacked.
The road leads one to Lake Turkana.
He also said several bridges along the Lodwar, Lokichar, Kainuk road as one heads to Kitale have been tarmacked.
Mariao asked KeNHA to tarmack all the remaining sections along the Lodwar-Loima road as one heads to Uganda.
He said the road has been tarmacked but several patches haven’t.
“For 10 years, this road seems to have stalled but the agency should fast track it. But generally we are happy as a result of the roads that have opened up this area,” he said.
