The chairman of the Kenyan Advisory Council of Texas and the Managing Director of Seagate Freight Limited has donated thousands of one day old chicks to youths in Kiambu Constituency.
On Monday through his foundation, Alex Karundu Foundation, he donated 500 chicks to Favored Self Help Group based in Kiamumbi village.
Speaking to Hot News on phone, Alex Karundu said most of the youths from the constituency which he hails from are undergoing untold suffering since Covid 19 pandemic hit the country in early 2020.
“It is my hope that they will take this project seriously. It will definitely be a stepping stone in their entrepreneurial journey.” he said.
The foundation’s youth empowerment projects coordinator Joseph Mwangi said they are determined to make Kiambu youths self-reliant.
According to Mwangi, the youths will be trained in entrepreneurial skills to ensure they can manage empowerment projects initiated by the foundation to ensure sustainability.
He said plans are underway to donate piglets to self-help groups which the foundation has helped the youths to register.
Karundu told Hot News that residents have approached him requesting him to join politics.
He said, “Leadership is God given and service to humanity is service to God, I am ready to serve my people.”
He said he is eyeing the Kiambu Constituency seat to replace his longtime friend Jude Njomo in 2022.
“I want to give back to the community for now. Time for politics will come.” he told Hot News.
Residents who talked to Hot News said the foundation has helped them to pay school fees, hospital bills and has supported various development projects in Kiambu for many years.
He hails from Ting’ang’a ward,Kagongo village.
They said Karundu is a development conscious individual with a lot of international exposure and can make a good leader.
“We expect his wealth of experience abroad to help us find markets for our farm produce as well as products from our jua Kali artisans.” said Lucy Nyaga.
