Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was heckled and humiliated on Sunday afternoon as he was about to address traders at Githurai 45 round about on Thika super highway.
Waititu was forced to cut short his speech after the crowd turned rowdy in front of Deputy President William Ruto.
Early Sunday he attended church services in three different churches including ACK St. Martin in Kahawa Wendani,PCEA Githurai 45 and St Veronica Catholic church all in Ruiru Sub county.
He was accompanied by the Deputy President and other politicians including nominated senator Isaac Mwaura and Ruiru MP Simon King’ara.
A close associate of Waititu who sought anonymity for security reasons said the governor was humiliated for spearheading demolitions of Githurai traders open air makeshift market last year and constant lies regarding construction of a state of the art market.
“Waititu convinced and assured traders that a new market will be built within months if they paved way for a contractor who he said had already been identified and paid.” The source told Hotnews.
“It is close to one year now and no contractor is on the ground. We have been suffering from the effects of scorching sun and heavy rains.” Said a trader, Paul Mwaura.
Waititu has previously been accused by senator Mwaura of having a preferred Chinese contractor to construct the Ksh 2.7 billion market.
Last week during an interview at a local vernacular station Waititu said an earlier advert in search of a suitable contractor had been cancelled.
A local daily today carried an advert by Kiambu County inviting qualified bidders to apply for the construction of the market.
Most of Kiambu MPs led by Kiambu Town legislature Jude Njomo have distanced themselves from Ruto’s Tangatanga team led by Waititu.
Senator Isaac Mwaura took to the social media to congratulate the traders for humiliating Waititu.
He said this was a true indicator that Githurai residents are tired of Waititu’s administration.
