Residents of Wetlands, Lower Kabete area in Nairobi have accused Look Media of cutting down trees to erect billboards.
Look Media is an outdoor advertising Company that puts up Billboards.
The residents led by former Karura MCA Kamau Thuo said more trees should be planted within the City instead of being cut.
They said they will demolish the Billboards if Look Media doesn’t stop.
“Look Media Ltd shamelessly cuts numerous indigenous trees on Lower Kabete road to “Create Visibility” for their Billboards. Governor Mike Sonko. Over to you Sir! A cartel based at City Hall Annex, City Hall 4th floor is responsible for aiding and protecting “Outdoor advertising Merchants” to erect illegal Billboards along road reserves, indiscriminately cutting down trees on Road reserves,” Thuo posted on face book.
He added that in the last one month, over 57 unapproved Billboards have been put up and hundreds of indigenous trees destroyed.
Look Media officials could not be reached for comment as the phone number provided on their website did not go through.
Trees are vital. As the biggest plants on the planet, they give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilize the soil and give life to the world’s wildlife.
They also provide us with the materials for tools and shelter.
