A 34-year-old woman Pamela Akinyi was last Friday doused with acid by her boyfriend in Nakuru.
The mother of two, was assaulted by her husband James Owino in Ponda Mali estate.
Eyewitnesses told Hot News the couple had a scuffle.
The woman is hospitalized at Nakuru PGH Hospital with severe burns.
Her face is defaced.
“Owino doused her face with thinner used for diluting paint. Then he set her on fire,” said the eyewitness who requested anonymity.
A thinner is a volatile solvent that is used to dilute or extend oil-based paints or cleanup after use.
Common solvents used as paint thinner chemicals include mineral spirits, mineral and true turpentine, acetone, naphtha, toluene, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), dimethylformamide (DMF), glycol ethers and xylene.
Akinyi reportedly has no child with Owino but the two kids are from a previous engagement.
Owino 36, was arrested by Akinyi’s brother and neighbors and handed over to the police.
He has been detained at Rhonda Police Post since Friday kas week.
Akinyi’s brother Charles Ogutu said Owino has not been arraigned in court.
“We are wondering why they have not taken him to court. We suspect there is a ploy to cover up everything. We appeal to all the concerned authorities to intervene,” Ogutu told Hot News.
