More than 40 workers at the County Assembly of Trans Nzoia have received letters terminating their employment.
This is after a court ruled that the right procedures were not followed during the hiring.
The affected workers were employed with the other six in 2016 on a two-year contract.
However, the 40 were put on permanent and pensionable terms because of influence of several MCAs.
The six were left out since they had nobody to help them.
They went to the Employment and Labor court to seek justice.
Those who were employed on the permanent program were mostly close friends and relatives of MCAs.
Those who were left out are Mike Musungu, Moses Fwamba, Benard Kwalia (Hansard recorders), David Musundi,Valantine Byego(Committee clerks) and Benda Pukose(Sergeant at arm).
Judge Nelson Abuodha ruled that the county assembly was wrong to employ 48 staff on permanent and pensionable terms with the exclusion of the six since it was discriminatory and amounted to unfair labor practices.
“The court hereby declares that the appointment of 48 employees of the county Assembly on July 1, 2016 as employees on permanent and pensionable terms to the exclusion of the six was discriminatory and amounted to unfair labor practices “said the Judge.
It has been established that the county Assembly started to dispatch letters to the employees on Tuesday.
According to one of the petitioners who spoke on condition of anonymity, former Majority Leader Alfred Weswa, the current Sirende MCA used his influence to employ his two daughters while his former Minority counterpart Hillary Kemei employed his wife.
Keiyo MCA Emmanuel Waswa hired his two brothers while nominated MCA Mary Talam employed her daughter.
The termination of their employment means the Assembly’s functions will be crippled until the advertisement, interviews and proper selection is done.
