Seven trucks with imported milk from neighboring Uganda were impounded on Thursday evening by Busia County Enforcement officers for evading payment of cess on milk.
Acting on a tip off, the officers led by Director of Enforcement and Security Mathew Ekakoro found the truck drivers culpable after failing to confirm payment of Sh 2000 cess per truck.
Ekakoro said the trucks were released on Friday upon payment of Sh5000 each as per the Finance Bill and Sh2000 each on the cess they defaulted.
“We shall continue with our vigilance in Busia and other entry points across the county to ensure that the county doesn’t lose revenue through tax evasion or other unscrupulous means,” he said.
Acting Head of Revenue in the County Charles Andima said the partnership between the County and National Government played a key role in impounding the truck, warning those who try to evade cess that their days are numbered.
