A group of Youths from North Eastern region have asked DP Rigathi Gachagua to leave former Finance CS Ukur Yattani alone.
Speaking during a press conference in Nairobi, the youth led by Abdi Omar said its time the Kenya Kwanza leaders settled down and served Kenyans instead of blaming the past regime.
The youth were reacting to DP Rigathi Gachaguas interview on Sunday evening where he attacked Yattani.
During the Interview that was broadcast on all TV Stations, Gachagua said that Yattani colluded with the Standard newspaper to allege that he Gachagua had demanded shs 1.5 billion from Treasury for his office and Wife.
“UKur Yattani, the former CS National Treasury, in conjunction with Kinuthia Mbugua the then comptroller of state house, who was then the accounting officer for both State House and the office of the Deputy President, under the direction of President Uhuru Kenyatta, cut off all funds to the office of the Deputy President. For 4 years, President William Ruto, fueled GK cars from his own pocket. He bought tea for his office, paid electricity bills and allowances of staff accompanying him from his own monies,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua added that when Ruto became President elect, Yattani and Mbugua who were attending meetings in his office were embarrassed and they sought to undo the damage of what they had done to save their face.
“The previous year, the budget of the office of the Deputy President was shs 4 billion. They went ahead and cut shs 1.5 billion. That’s what they were trying to reinstate. The Deputy President Rigthi Gachagua had nothing to do with it. That’s their work. So when the Standard newspaper was trying to assist Yattani to divert attention from the real issues, the real issue was that in the dying hours of the Uhuru administration, President Uhuru Kenyatta pushed the controller of budget through Yattani and its documented through whats app messages to pay shs 15 billion in 26 minutes. Money that we shall give you details of how it was stolen,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua added that the Standard newspaper was trying to divert attention by letting the people digress from the theft of shs 15 billion in 26 minutes in the dying hours of Uhuru administration by saying that the Deputy President had requested for shs 1.5 billion.
“In this matter, no request was made from my office. It’s the controller of State House who made the request and they were trying to undo the damage they had done to President William Ruto to save their faceS,” he said.
Omar said its embarrassing for Gachagua to belittle the former CS by saying that he could stoop so low and collude with the Standard Newspaper.
“Gachagua wasn’t the right candidate for the DP post. Instead of working, he’s busy blaming Yattani. Time is running out and if the Kenya Kwanza administration is not careful, they will not deliver to Kenyans,” Omar said.
On his part, Yattani through his lawyers has maintained that he never forced nor coerced the Controller of budget to authorize approval of shs 15 billion.
