President Uhuru Kenyatta has attacked activist Okiya Omtata over his constant court petitions.
Uhuru also faulted Judges and Magistrates who always give Omtata injunctions always “on the same day”.
The President spoke at the Supreme Court buildings during the official release of the State of the Judiciary and Administrative of Justice report.
“There are professionals who come to you, they say close this project. Why is it that 99 percent of these cases are filed by one person? I think there is something there,” he said.
He said the Judiciary must reconsider these orders.
“You have to ask yourself, what is the purpose(motive) of this person bringing this thing here (court). Is he serving personal interest? Or Public Interest?” the President posed.
The President complained to the Chief Justice that such petitions filed in court have led to freezing of government projects leading to loss of millions.
He said the Government has lost at least shs 10 billion after court injunctions led to no work going on in Mwea Rice scheme.
He said that the Judiciary wants more money, yet it constantly issues injunctions on proposed tax measures.
Maraga said the Judiciary is starved of cash.
“I am not your age mate. You play in a different league. You are above us. My league is with Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi. That’s how I understand the pecking order,” Maraga told the President.
Maraga said there are challenges to be addressed and they can only be addressed through mutual respect.
