Independence Party KANU has rejuvenated its network across the nine constituencies in Bungoma county.
The Party has appointed an interim County leadership team in preparation for the 2022 elections.
The Interim County Executive team that was appointed yesterday includes Maurice Mukinginyi as the Chairperson and Joe Kimkun as the Vice Chairperson.
Kimukun who is a former Mt Elgon MP was appointed in absentia.
The Secretary is Sammy Barasa.
Deputy secretary Robert Mutonyi,
Organizing Secretary, Saddie Chesori.
Deputy Organizing Secretary Godfrey Wangila,
Treasurer Musa Abdallah and Woman wing leader Celestine Psoken.
The new branch leadership resolved to vigorously support Baringo Senator Gideon Moi for Presidency in 2022.
Addressing the press in Kimilili town, the new interim chairman Maurice Mukinginyi said KANU would do a recruitment drive and establish a strong, vibrant network at the grassroots to ensure the party is popular and strong like in the past.
“Gideon Moi has what it takes to lead this country. He has a vision, is humble and down to earth leader who will bring development to this region just like his father Mzee Moi.,”he said.
Mukinginyi said that the party offices will be relocated from Kimilili to Webuye town.
He added that the officials plan to transverse Bungoma after Covid-19 is over and drum up support for Moi.
Bungoma county is dominated by Ford Kenya, ANC, and Jubilee Parties.
Jubilee has five MPs, Ford Kenya has three including the women rep, Senator, Governor and 28 MCAs.
Gideon Moi has declared he will be gunning for the top seat on a KANU ticket after the retirement of Uhuru.
The party used to be very strong in Bungoma in the 1980’s when the late cabinet minister Elijah Mwangale was the chairman.
Joash Wamangoli, the current Nzoia Sugar chairman was Webuye MP and Joseph Kimukung was Mt Elgon MP.
The Party lost popularity with the advent of multi-party democracy in 1990.
KANU has never won a parliamentary seat in Bungoma from 1992 but with new leadership and the wrangles affecting Ford Kenya and ANC parties, KANU hopes to reap big from the spoils.
The party’s deputy organizing Secretary Godfrey Wangila asked residents to join the party adding that it will form the next government.
“I want to take this opportunity to welcome all into Jogoo party because this is a new beginning. Wand we as officials promise good representation across the county and we welcome new membership,” he said.
Wangila who is vying for Matulo ward MCA seat in 2022 said that the officials will capitalize on the Ford Kenya party wrangles to recruit more members to the party.
He said that none of the 2022 presidential aspirants from Bungoma have the muscle to marshal up a presidential election.
He asked Wetangula and Mudavadi to join hands with Gideon Moi to take the Mulembe community to state house.
