The political future and unity of the amorphous Kalenjin groping hangs in the balance.
Two centers of political power have emerged after Gideon Moi was crowned the community elder in dawn rituals in Nandi County on Friday.
DP William Ruto has also undergone such rituals in the past.
Social media was awash with reports of the event that took place secretly.
On January 2, the younger Moi was blocked by angry youths from being crowned the community elder.
Reports indicated that Moi landed at the Eldoret airport before proceeding to Nandi.
Moi was coronated by a faction of Talai elders.
One faction of the elders supports DP William Ruto.
The elder’s faction headed by Christopher Koyogi supports Gideon Moi.
Koyogi declared that Gideon was now the Kalenjin community leader and he was given similar powers as those given to his father Daniel Moi more than 63 years ago- a section of the media reported.
It was reported that the elders handed Gideon the Kalenjin community’s instruments of power and gave him the mandate to look for the country’s leadership.
Their actions put Gideon at loggerhead with DP William Ruto who is seeking political control of the populous Rift Valley and the Kalenjin community.
Political pundits are yet to commend on the impact that Gideon Moi’s coronation will have on DP William Ruto’s influence in 2022 elections.
