The Chief Conservator of Forests Julius Kamau has mourned environmentalist Joannah stuchbury.
She was killed on Thursday afternoon outside her Kiambu House.
“The Service wishes to convey its deep condolences to the family, friends, relatives, and the entire Nation following her sad demise and joins in condemning this heinous act,” Kamau said.
Kamau said the relevant security agencies must track down the killers.
The late Joannah Stutchbury was a resident of Kiambu County, living around the vicinity of Kiambu Forest Reserve where her dedication, passion, and selflessness for the conservation and protection of Kiambu Forest Reserve against grabbing and illegal activities was evident.
The CCF said she was instrumental in supporting the role of Kenya Forest Service by advocating for the protection of Kiambu Forest Reserve by notifying the Service on any illegal activities occurring within the forest and moved to court to report and condemn such activities.
Kiambu Forest Reserve was originally gazetted as a forest reserve vide Proclamation No 44 of 1932, vide Legal Notice No. 174 of 20th May 1964 which declared it a central forest, therefore an alienated Government Land for the sole purpose of forestry development (conservation).
Kamau said KFS has lost an environmental partner and champion who was selfless in protecting Kiambu Forest Reserve.
He added that the efforts by the late Joannah Stutchbury will not go in vain by ensuring it continues to conserve, protect, and sustainably manage Kiambu Forest Reserve for the benefit of the people of Kiambu and the entire country.
