COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has asked Kenyan workers to remain calm and focus on the 2022 elections.
Atwoli said he was saddened by the Appeal court which upheld the High Court ruling that declared the BBI process illegal.
Atwoli warned that those celebrating will have their celebrations cut short by the results in 2022.
“There will be a lot of changes favorable to the amendments of the constitution. All these are aimed at improving the livelihoods of the Kenyan workers,” he said.
He blamed the BBI loss on “politicians hate and love relationship”.
When the High Court declared the BBI process illegal, Atwoli said the move was a “Judicial coup”.
“Nobody can stop reggae. Nobody can stop BBI. It was a popular initiative. There were more than 4 million signatures, it went through the county Assemblies and the MCAs accepted it, Kenyans accepted it, the National Parliament accepted it., our senate accepted it. Every Kenyan accepted it. It cannot be turned down by the thinking of five judges who had a predetermined mind,” Atwoli said.
He added that the High Court judges had nothing to do with the BBI but simply attacked President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Judge Ngugi called President Uhuru Kenyatta a Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta- he did not even recognize him as a president at all. Their main objective was to attack the president” he said.
He added that President Uhuru Kenyatta has the right to push for a popular initiative.
