Busia County Chief Officer for Health and Sanitation Dr Isaac Omeri has denied claims that alcohol drinkers cannot contract Coronavirus (Covid-19).
Speaking during live interview with Busia FM on Tuesday morning, Dr Omeri said alcohol doesn’t cure Coronavirus contrary to ardent drinkers believe.
“Drinkers especially changaa lovers have been bragging that chances of them contracting Civid-19 are minimal and encouraged non-drinkers to join them,” he said.
Callers complained that hand sanitizers had run out of stock in shops and supermarkets across the county and wondered whether ordinary soap can be used instead.
The Chief Officer said liquid or ordinary soap helps reduce the contagious scourge, telling residents not to worry if they fail to get hand sanitizers.
However, Dr Omeri told county residents to wash their hands with running water and avoid washing hands with contaminated water.
He cautioned against use of one towel to wipe hands by many people.
Omeri said a questionnaire will be developed for people entering the country to enable them take appropriate action if such travelers are coming from coronavirus prone countries.
He also disclosed that the department will train people drawn from schools, boda boda, business community and county staff on precautionary measures to forestall covid-19.
Coronavirus symptoms include dry cough, shortness of breath, headache, body aches, sore throat, fatique, diarrhea, runny/stuffy nose and sneezing.
