Residents of Alego Usonga in Siaya County have vowed to boycott ODM and its candidates if Senator James Orengo vies for Governor.
This was prompted by Orengo saying that he does not need Governor Rasanga’s support.
Alego Usonga is the leading constituency in Siaya County with the highest number of voters.
The residents spoke to Hot News a week after Orengo said that ODM has not endorsed him for the Gubernatorial seat.
Orengo also denied claims that ODM will hand him a direct nomination in 2022.
Orengo even took to the floor of the House and said he does not belong to any line up.
Despite the denial, two weeks ago, ODM top brass led by Party leader Raila Odinga met at Kings Hotel in Bondo town where all positions in Siaya County were shared.
The Hotel is owned by one Andio Mwayi.
Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga last week vowed to hand over to Senator James Orengo the instruments of power in 2022.
In a video clip that has since gone viral, Rasanga is heard saying that ODM leader Raila Odinga gave him the post and he will not hand over to anyone else.
“As far as I am concerned, Orengo is likely to fit into my shoes. When I was telling you people that Jakom had the shoelaces- the spare shoelaces, now those shoelaces have been released to me- I will be releasing them to James Orengo,” Rasanga said when prodded by journalists.
The residents said they do not trust Orengo and if he vies, then they will have no option but to support Engineer Nicholas Gumbo who is also eying the seat.
They have asked former Police Spokesperson Charles Owino to team up with Gumbo.
The preferred candidates in Siaya County are:
James Orengo-Governor
Oburu Odinga- Senator
Cornel Rasanga- Alego Usonga
Gem- Jalang’o Midiwo (brother to late Jakoyo Midiwo)
Ugunja -Opiyo Wandayi
Governor Rasanga and the local ODM office have been tasked with identifying suitable candidates to take up Bondo, Rarieda and Ugenya.
