Political leaders from Siaya County yesterday held a crisis meeting after several Ward reps skipped the inaugural address of the Assembly by Governor James Orengo.
The meeting held at a local Hotel in Kisumu was meant to explore ways of bringing the disgruntled Reps back to ODM.
The reps who skipped the meeting, are reported to be working with rival parties and leaders opposed to ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
On Tuesday 11th October, only a few MCAs attended the inaugural address.
In order to cover up and portray a positive image of the County, the Assembly communication team posted several photos and write ups that did not mention the issue where MCAs skipped the session.
“Governor James Orengo has today delivered his maiden address to the County Assembly, heralding the formal commencement of Sittings of the 3rd County Assembly,” the communication team posted on the Assembly’s website.
The communication team went on to state that, Governor Orengo embarks on the daunting task of delivering on his campaign manifesto, the Governor underscored the need for the Assembly and the Executive to embrace collegiality, remarking that intentional collaboration between the Executive and the Assembly will create a favorable working environment.
The team went on to say that this will enrich development and service delivery.
“You, as a County Assembly, must exercise your powers robustly without let or hindrance. It is my deeply held conviction that for Siaya to reap the fruits and democratic dividends of devolution, good governance, integrity, transparency and accountability and for us to attain sustainable development, the legislative authority, which is vested in the County Assembly, must be respected, upheld, defended and protected. I will never seek to make you an appendage of the county executive,” Orengo said.
