Two groups of Boda Boda operators have emerged in Kitale Town.
One group has faulted the other over the approach it has taken to express its grievances over harassment from Trans Nzoia County officials.
Endebess subcounty leaders Ronald Juma,Joel Kibet and Peter Juma asked a group that has been demonstrating against the County Government since Monday to end the demos.
The group whose membership consists of those from Kitale municipality started demonstrations on Monday.
Business was halted in Kitale town.
The group which is led by chairman David Magero wants the county Government to reduce the taxes imposed per motorbike operator from sh 300 per month to sh 700 per year.
Magero claims the new hired enforcement officers mishandle the motorcyclists and overcharge them if they don’t pay on time.
Juma said the ongoing demonstrations have made those with contrary opinions not to work because those found not engaging in the demos are roughed up.
In a statement on Tuesday, another group led by Ombima Ombima said the demonstrations against the County Government were not genuine.
Ombima said the demos were facilitated by politicians from the County.
“We the Trans Nzoia bodaboda operators want to express our dissatisfaction with the group that destroyed our businesses yesterday. We strongly condemn the Demonstrations that are claimed to be championing for our rights as Boda Boda operators. The demos are aimed at helping few politicians achieve their selfish interests “the statement said.
Ombima condemned the police for taking “leave” and watching as economic and social activities in Kitale Town were disrupted by the “crooks”.
He said most of those who took part in the demos were not Boda Boda Operators.
He however did not reveal the names of the politicians whom they suspect of sponsoring the chaos and the amount of money.
