A new Parish has been born in Catholic Diocese of Bungoma.
Busia leaders led by Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and his Deputy Moses Mulomi on Sunday witnessed the inauguration of Bumutiru Catholic Parish in Butula Sub County.
Bumutiru becomes the fourth catholic parish from Butula Sub County to receive parish status after Buhuyi, Butula and Butunyi.
Fr Leonard Ekisa was installed as the first Parish Priest.
Kakamega Bishop and Bungoma Diocese Apostolic Administrator Bishop Joseph Obanyi presided over the ceremony.
The Ceremony was also attended by MPs Joseph Oyula (Butula) and John Bunyasi (Nambale).
County Education Executive Grevas Opata and Chief Officer Water and Irrigation, George Tom Ekisa.
Addressing the congregants, Ojaamong thanked Christians for the efforts they put to realize the dreams of a parish.
” I have taken note of demands by the parish priest regarding water scarcity at the facility. My Chief Officer for Water, Dr Tom Ekisa who is here with us will take up that matter in the shortest time possible,” he said.
The Governor said his government will also ensure that electricity is connected to the parish as soon as possible, underscoring the importance of partnering with churches to realize spiritual nourishment.
“Considering that the parish has over 10 acres of land, Ojaamong said he will team up with other leaders to construct a private school and a hospital at the parish to reap from economies of scale,” he noted.
Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi said the needs of the parish are pertinent and they need urgent attention.
Area MP Joseph Oyula said the creation of more sub parishes will reduce the distance Butula Christians take, forcing some of them to seek spiritual nourishment in neighboring Sega parish.
