Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has urged Boda Boda operators to start paying revenue to enable them to enjoy better services.
Addressing over 40 riders from Teso South who had paid him a courtesy call at his Okiludu residence on Friday morning, the Governor told the riders to pay at least Sh10 per day in the reciprocation of the efforts his government was doing to better the lives of county residents.
“This will be like revolving fund which my government will refund to the riders with a top up to enable them empower themselves economically,” he said.
The Governor noted that riders from other neighboring counties are paying taxes.
There are over 144,000 motorcycle riders in the county including 20 ladies, meaning that the county can collect Sh1.4million daily from the sector and over Sh500m annually.
He said this will enable the County to meet its revenue targets.
He challenged the riders to form Saccos to benefit from the County’s revolving funds.
Ojaamong said Chamu Sacco from Teso South benefited from Sh3m funding from the County Government.
