Busia County Director of Communications Winston Mbanda has called on county residents to involve themselves in the management of community resources.
He said their involvement will ensure the projects are implemented in order of priority.
Mbanda added that this will also help avoid instances where contractors do shoddy jobs.
The Director said communities have a say in which projects they want implemented in order of priority and to monitor projects from start to the end.
“ It is the duty of residents through public participation to identify challenges facing them and agree on how they want them addressed; they are also empowered to monitor projects and come up with needs assessment ,” he said.
He spoke while opening a three day Malaba North Ward Community Public Participation and Public Participatory Project Implementation Sensitization Workshop at Kamuriai ACK Church.
The Director told communities to have contractors disclose the contents of the bills of quantity before they start their projects or raise alarm if they fail to do so.
He urged county residents to embrace e-procurement and be guaranteed to get contracts not only in Busia but other counties too.
“What you need to do is to upload the required documents on the system.” he said, allaying fears that e-procurement is prone to manipulation.
