Busia County Government through the Ward Development Fund (WDF) has rolled out a Sh35m project where groups in the selected wards will benefit from 234 dairy animals and animal feeds.
The project was launched at Bukhalarire Chief’s camp in Marachi Central Ward on Tuesday.
Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi thanked Marachi Central Member of the County Assembly Patrick Obuya for joining MCAs who value the project for the benefit of the people.
The DG said the County Government was making efforts to ensure there is value addition in milk.
He said Butula had benefited from the county Government’s gesture by availing two milk coolers in the county.
Mulomi said Bumala B will benefit from a dairy park.
He said Khunyangu sub county hospital will enjoy modern X-ray and theater facilities.
Agriculture Executive Moses Osia said the aim of the project is to increase milk production in the county.
He said its wrong for County residents to import milk from Uganda.
Area MCA Patrick Obuya said the dairy project is aimed at reducing poverty.
Obuya told the 18 groups that benefited from the first cohort of the grant to take care of their animals to increase milk production in the county.
” I will add 12 more dairy animals to make it 30 with plans to start a dairy park, purchase more dairy animals and construct animal feeds in the ward,’ Obuya said.
