The County government of Busia has started evaluating its ECDE,s and vocational training centers.
The exercise kicked off today.
Phase two of quality assessment of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) is aimed at ensuring quality education in the county.
Addressing the press after chairing a meeting of all education stakeholders drawn from the County and National Government, ECDE Chief Officer Lydia Nabwire said the foundation of education begins with ECDE.
“We shall visit these institutions to find out what happens and identify the gaps so as to better the performance,” she said.
She added that it will also help improve the county performance in national examinations.
She said the Department will constitute a taskforce of stakeholders in the 2019-2020 financial years to find out what ails the education sector in the county.
Nabwire said they want to focus on devolved functions where they have ECDEs and VTC,s which could be contributing to the declining performance in national exams.
She added that the task force will also help unearth other factors contributing to a decline in education standards.
Director, Accounting Services Paul Onono said the quality of education in Busia County has declined.
Others who decried the decline in education standards included County Quality and Standards officer Dr. Manassi Echaune, Director VTC Leonard Opollo and Director ECDE Douglas Barasa.
