The County Government of Busia has constituted an Ebola management and response team.
County Chief Officer for Health Dr Isaac Omeri and the County Ebola Response team at the Health Ministry Joseph Njau said the national government has offered capacity building to the Ebola management team.
Dr Omeri said capacity building will enable them detect the disease before it gets out of hand.
“Ebola can be managed if detected early and supportive management initiated, this can push the fatality rate to less than 30 per cent. Currently in DRC, over 200,000 cases have been reported with a fatality rate of about 60 per cent,” Dr Omeri said.
He said the outbreak has not only been a threat to Busia County but to the entire Nation.
He said the county will consider proposals from the Ministry to avail land for the construction of an Ebola Emergency Rescue Centre in the County.
Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi said the County Government of Busia is taking seriously the issue of Ebola that has claimed two lives in Uganda and over 1000 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
