The County Government of Busia through the Department of Health and Sanitation has issued a stern warning to health personnel against theft of drugs.
This follows the arrest of three businessmen with GoK-labelled drugs in Busia town during a crackdown by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
Addressing journalists in Busia, Chief Officer for Medical Services Dr Isaac Omeri said stern action will be taken against those stealing drugs from health facilities to sell to private chemists and clinics.
“The County Government is closely working with the drug inspectors and will not hesitate to take a stern action against individuals in the County who will be found culpable,” stressed the Chief Officer.
Omeri thanked members of the public for volunteering information pertaining to those involved in theft of drugs, adding that such vital information will help stem the vice.
“It is our humble request to residents to expose persons involved in theft of drugs for sale to private facilities,” he said.
He added sh144 million has been set aside by the County Government for the purchase of drugs.
The Chief Officer pointed out that an additional sh40 million will also be received from the National Government under the Universal Health Coverage funds for the same purpose.
“We have made plans to ensure that all public hospitals get drugs for the benefit of the residents visiting various health facilities to get medical treatment,” he added.
