Busia Town is set to get walkways and parking bays in a bid to make it a dusty free.
The Chief Officer (CO) in the Department of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Maurice Odundo said the walkways and parking bays will cover both parts of the Busia-Kisumu Highway from Co-operative Bank and Public Works to the Town Centre.
He added that this will increase revenue generation for the County.
“We shall also undertake face-lifting of the town through proper waste management, greening, installation of four- 30 meter mass lights in Burumba and Ang’orom Ward to make the border town a 24-hour economy,” he said.
He said they will buy two trucks for use in removing solid waste to the dumping site and 300 dust bins stationed at strategic points.
Odundo said the World Bank through the Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP) has released Sh100m this financial year for upgrading Busia Town noting that the five-year plan will see Busia Town benefit from Sh500m funding.
He said the County is lobbying to have Malaba and Nambale attain Municipality Status to enable them benefit from (KUSP) funding.
Odundo said the department will also undertake the development of the 843 acres at Nasewa.
The department had an allocation of Sh473 million this financial year including Sh100m grant from the World Bank through the Kenya Urban Support Program.
It has four key service areas which include land management, surveying, physical planning and urban development.
