The County Government of Busia has put up contingency emergency plans in readiness and in order to prevent Coronavirus.
Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi said the County Coronavirus Emergency preparedness committee co-chaired by Governor Ojaamong and County Commissioner has been formed.
He said a technical Corona emergency preparedness committee led by a team of specialists at the department of health and sanitation has also been formed.
“There is enhanced and vigilant screening at both entry points at Busia and Malaba one stop border post and other entry points along the border with Uganda,” he said.
Other measures include training of 14 key health workers, creation of two isolation centers at Busia trailer park clinic and Malaba port health, availing a standby ambulance and identification of treatment facility.
Mulomi said the County Government is determined to ensure her citizens are well protected.
” Busia County is the gateway to East and Central Africa. It has been classified as one of the 14 high risk counties due to various informal crossing points, “he said.
He asked residents to be wary of COVID-19 which is spread through direct contact, droplets in contaminated items including linen, utensils and hands.
Mulomi told residents to reduce kissing, avoid greetings, self-isolation, report any suspicious cases, minimize body contacts with people showing signs of corona and avoid informal points.
He said sub county technical committee will be formed to sensitize residents on the contagious disease.
Matayos Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Onyango warned members of the public to be wary of unsolicited donations from people in form of masks, saying they could be laced with harmful chemicals.
