A total of 452 Early Childhood Education (ECDE) centers in Busia have benefitted from free textbooks from the County Government of Busia.
Chief Officer for ECDE Lydia Nabwire received the consignment on Friday that will benefit 46,520 learners across the county from the Kenya Literature Bureau Market Development Officer, Achola Arawo.
Addressing the press, Nabwire said there are 454 ECDE centers across the county but two schools did not benefit since they are unregistered.
She said the process to register them is on-going.
“These textbooks will help improve the quality of teaching in our schools; our children will get the best education based on the Competence Based Curriculum,” she said.
The Chief Officer said the book’s cover five teaching activities including Creative, Maths, English, Kiswahili and Design.
In order to ensure the books are well maintained, the chief officer said they will install shelves in all ECDE centers, noting that they will factor in the next financial year for procurement of material for covering the books.
Nabwire said Governor Ojaamong will commission the distribution of the books on March 27th, 2019, the same day that 464 new ECDE teachers will receive their appointment letters.
A total of 439 ECDE teachers have so far been employed.
