The Catholic church is demanding an apology from all the politicians that engaged in a scuffle in Gitui Catholic church in Murang’a on Sunday.
The Bishop of Murang’a Diocese John Maria Wainaian said in a press statement on Monday.
“Arising from the incident at Gitui catholic Parish, the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a demands a public apology from those involved,” Bishop Wainaina said.
The Bishop said a time has come for politicians to be limited from church activities.
Those who attended the church service on Sunday said a scuffle ensued when Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro who arrived late in Church demanded to be in charge of the fundraising function which was being presided over by nominated MP Maina Kamanda.
It is then that a scuffle ensued.
Police tried to arrest MP Ndindi Nyoro but his supporters helped him escape.
The police have asked him to surrender saying he can run but cannot hide.
The Bishop said following the incident that disrupted the normal flow of the service, it was evident that politicians have no value for Christian gatherings.
He said politicians have for years taken Christian gatherings conveniently as platforms for self-interests and self-proposition in elective posts.
“I feel that this incident was a strong confirmation of the reasons to limit time and space offered to politicians,” he said.
He said the incident further confirms why Christian gatherings must always remain in the hands of a bishop or priest.
