Several elders from different communities in Trans Nzoia County have planned elaborate ceremonies to endorse Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya for the Governor’s seat.
Speaking to Hot News in Kitale town, the elders who sought anonymity said that Natembeya had confided in them that he will resign from the Public Service in February next year.
The “closely guarded secret” leaked when Hot News learned that some elders are planning elaborate ceremonies to welcome Natembeya next year and crown him a community elder of each of the communities living in Trans Nzoia.
“We will start with the local Bukusu and Tachoni Council of elders who will jointly endorse him. Then the Sabaot will follow, Kikuyus, Kisii’s Kalenjins , Turkana’s and all the other communities in that order. Remember Natembeya is a servant of all the communities in Trans Nzoia,” the community elder told Hot News at a local Hotel.
The elders said that Natembeya is a unifying figure, and they will campaign for him.
They said his current opponent Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa is a divisive figure and that given a chance- he will bring divisions among the residents.
Natembeya and Wamalwa have been trading barbs.
The supremacy battles have seen Natembeya who recently said he will vie for the seat gain ground and eat into Wamalwa;s support base.
Wamalwa is also weakened by the fact that Ford Kenya has two factions and its on its death bed.
The elders said they will work hard and give Natembeya the winning ticket which will be the party formed after ODM /Jubilee merge.
Wamalwa has fallen out with several MPs from Trans Nzoia.
In the past, Governor Patrick Khaemba warned him to stop insulting him at funerals.
