Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has told off his MCAs not to drag him into petty issues.
Speaking to Hot News, Governor Kibwana communication director Edward Mwendwa told off several MCAS from the County who had accused the Governor of nepotism.
According to some MCAs from the County who requested anonymity, they said the governor has been directing some of the County cash to Shina Foundation which is run by his wife Nazi Kibwana.
The MCAs went on to say that the Governors brother Dr Musyoki Kibwana is the Chief Officer for Health in the County and that he was appointed due to the governor’s influence.
“His son Robert Kivutha is working is with Shina Foundation which is funded by the county government. His daughter in-law Alice Mbui is working in the ICT department after the governor influenced her appointment,” said an MCA who requested anonymity for fear of reprisal.
The MCAs went on to allege that the governor’s daughter is a contractor and consultant with the county government.
However, when reached for comment, the governor himself did not respond.
However, his communication director dismissed the MCAs saying they have no basis.
“They are useless. Shina Foundation is a different entity. Makueni County is a different entity too. Shina has nothing to do with Makueni. There is nothing, if there was anything; the auditor general could have queried it,” Mwendwa said.
He added that the County Chief Officer for Health was appointed on merit by the County Public Service Board which is a competent body.
“The Chief Officer for health is there by merit. This is a scheme to taint Governor Kibwana. All these are side shows. MCAs especially those who are nominated are busy bodies. Idlers who want attention,” he said.
Mwendwa said Governor Kibwana’s record on corruption speaks for itself and that he is focused on developing the County.
H e said the World Bank has identified Makueni County as the best place to benchmark and learn about public participation.
The communication chief also said the MCAs claims may be as a result of the ongoing power struggles in Wiper where Kibwana said in the past that he doesn’t want to be forced to support wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
