Residents of Eastlands and more so those who reside along Outering Road have blamed the police and Matatus for causing traffic snarl ups along the road.
They said the local police simply turn a blind eye as Matatus stop right in the middle of the road and carry passengers as others alight.
They said this is the cause of the traffic jams witnessed on the road despite it being a dual carriage- way and with service lanes for matatus.
The road has several designated picks up and drop off points, foot bridges but they are not well utilized.
The residents called on the police to enforce the traffic laws and help decongest the road.
The road was completed in 2017 and eased travel time from the General Service Unit on Thika road to JKIA from three hours to 30 minutes.
The Sh8.2 billion project was carried out by KURA.
KURA was funded by the Treasury and the Africa Development Bank.
In a past interview, KURA DG Silas Kinoti said improvement of the Outering Road will transform Nairobi’s Eastlands into a modern suburban destination.
Apart from those heading to JKIA, travel time to and from the CBD to several parts of Eastlands has also been reduced.
