Busia police have launched a manhunt for a man who escaped from supervised quarantine at St Monica Chakol Girls High School in Teso South Sub County.
Addressing a press conference after co-chairing Coronavirus (Covid-19) County Emergency Response Committee meeting with Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi at Busia County Referral Hospital on Thursday, County Commissioner, Joseph Kanyiri told the escapee to return voluntarily.
” We are giving him a leeway of returning to the facility voluntarily failure to which he will bear the cost of searching and bringing him back,” he said, adding that he will also face the law after the quarantine.
The County Commissioner said the man was among 13 people who were arrested in Kocholia for failure to observe Covid-19 compliance, adding that the escapee operates business in Malaba.
He revealed that 11 people are being quarantined at Kisoko Girls in Nambale, with six held at Nangina Girls in Samia Sub County.
The CC also clarified that 10 Kenyans including four fishermen from Sio-port who were arrested and quarantined in Uganda for illegally crossing the border have been released; we have since released them to join their families after producing clearance certificate giving them clean bill of health from Covid-19 pandemic.
The Deputy Governor H.E Mulomi said the meeting agreed to start fumigation of all trucks crossing the border to contain the emergency and spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the County.
Mulomi said they want to reverse the current practice where only drivers who record high temperatures had their vehicles fumigated.
He thanked the County Assembly for passing the Supplementary budget, noting that the money will be ready for use in the next 10 days.
