Ford Kenya has accepted the ruling on BBI by the court of Appeal.
The party’s officials led by Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, lawyer Ben Milimo and Susan Nakhumicha said the party respects and accepts the courts verdict.
Area party secretary Joseph Pepela and nominated MCA Rodgers Barasa were also present during a press briefing at Milimani on Saturday.
“We respect and accept the decision by the court. The reggae has now stopped” said Wamalwa.
On Friday, court of Appeal judges upheld the High Court ruling that nullified the BBI.
Wamalwa urged their supporters and Kenyans at large to focus on next year’s general election.
“IEBC should now start preparations for next year’s elections through voter registration, cleaning of voter registration, hiring of more personnel among other issues in preparation for August general elections” said the Kiminini MP.
Wamalwa said Parliament will now focus on passing laws related to elections.
The MP however asked any Kenyan who wants to move to supreme court to do so since it is their democratic right.
He said such a case should be determined with speed at the supreme court giving an example of the Presidential petitions that only take two weeks.
Milimo, the Ford Kenya lawyer ruled out any possibility of initiating key BBI governance changes through parliament saying the law prohibits that.
Key changes such as introducing the office of the Leader of opposition, having a Prime Minister with two Deputies, getting Cabinet Ministers from parliament can also be changed through a popular initiative.
“The answer is no, parliament has no mandate in making such key changes, only popular initiative can” added Milimo.
Pepela asked civil servants who are eyeing political positions in the area to desist from violating covid protocols by secretly holding meetings.
The leaders asked Kenyans to support One Kenya Alliance, an alliance where Ford Kenya belongs.
