Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has urged County residents to help him in arresting drug thieves in County hospitals.
He told residents that if they do not arrest the thieves, they will suffer if the drugs run out of stock.
Speaking after opening Muyafwa Dispensary in Matayos South Ward, the Governor said Facility Management Committees and Health Volunteers also hold the key in ensuring that no drugs are stolen in health institutions within their jurisdictions.
“ I want to see regular audits of drugs and the patients by the committees and volunteers ; my government will not allow unscrupulous people to steel government property and leave patients dying,” he said.
Ojaamong said he will talk to Members of the County Assembly to allocate money from the Ward Fund kitty to supplement operations of 80 dispensaries across the County.
The Governor said Busia County Referral Hospital has been elevated to Referral Status.
“We are making deliberate efforts to elevate Matayos Health Centre to a sub county referral hospital with all facilities including X-Rays, theatre, maternity, radiology and much other equipments,” he said.
Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi said the health sector gets the lion’s share of the county budget but t still needs more money.
He said Sh13m from the Kenya Devolution Support Program will be used to complete the theatre at Matayos Health Centre with a further Sh5m used to equip the theatre.
