Former Kajiado Senator Peter Mositet has denied media reports that he is opposed to the decommissioning of the now full Ngong dumpsite to the Vet Farm where a multi-million waste management Plant is to be set up.
Mositet told Hot News he fully supports the County Plans and the County leaders.
“The Project started in 2016. The Catholic Bishop of Ngong John Obala appointed Fr Kariuki to a committee which I was leading. We worked together on the relocation of the dumpsite,” he said.
Mositet said in the same year, together with then Environment Principal Secretary Charles Sunkuli, they held a meeting in the PS’s office and discussed on the way forward.
Mositet added that the PS then visited the current dumpsite and told the locals and the National Environment Authority (NEMA) not to allow waste from Nairobi.
Mositet said the biggest waste brought to Ngong is from Nairobi.
“As a student of transformation leadership, I fully support the advocacy of human rights and the environment. Where human rights are upheld positively, I fully support it like yesterday. Also matters to do with environmental conservation, I support,” he said.
On Monday, it was reported that Kajiado West MP George Sunkuiya, his predecessor Moses Ole Sakuda and Mositet had said Keekonyokie clan is not ready to receive garbage from Kajiado North.
The reports said that the leaders are opposed to the decommissioning of the now full Ngong dumpsite to the Vet Farm where a multi-million waste management Plant is to be set up.
When reached for comment, former Kajiado West MP Moses Ole Sakuda was reluctant to clarify if he is opposed to the project or not.
“Who are those saying I am opposed to the project? End of story,” Sakuda said.
Kajiado West MP George Sunkuiya could not be reached for comment as his phone was off the whole of Tuesday.
It was reported that the leaders now want Kajiado North residents and the County Government to instead throw the garbage to quarries in the area and not to construct the waste management in any land associated with the Keekonyokie clan.
The project will use modern waste management processes and employ more than 500 people from the area.
Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has vowed to ensure the project will not stop.
Two weeks ago, the county machinery moved to the site and started removing all the garbage.
Recently, the Governor lobbied the County Assembly to allocate Sh 100 Million to remove the dumpsite which is an eyesore.
Kajiado North MP Joseph Manje and all his MCAs are backing the project as well as the Catholic Church fraternity and education stakeholders.
The 20 acres land at Vet Farm was allocated for the project by the Ministry of Livestock Development in 2007.
