The Trans Nzoia 2022 gubernatorial succession has taken a new twist after two more candidates joined the race to succeed Governor Patrick Khaemba.
The new entrants are Trans Nzoia former finance Chief officer Ben Wanjala and speaker Joshua Werunga.
The two join Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa,DP William Ruto’s aides Kakai Bisau, Abraham Sing’oei and businessman Andrew Wanyonyi.
On Friday last week, Cherangany MP Joshua Kuttuny said he will endorse him for the seat.
“I have been observing Bisau for long and after correcting him severally, it is like he can win my heart” Kuttuny said during the celebration of his 43rd birthday in Kaplamai.
Last week, Bisau also won the hearts of at least ten MCAs.
Chris Wamalwa has been campaigning for the last three years immediately he was reelected for the second term.
His critics say despite being a strong politician, his “loose tongue” and bashing of elders might cost him the seat.
Wamalwa is a friend to Kitale Diocese, Catholic Bishop Anthony Crowley who is set to retire this year.
Werunga is closer to Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa and former forestry Minister Noah Wekesa who helped him clinch the speaker’s position.
He has also never disappointed Governor Khaemba’s administration since he became the speaker.
Prof Wanjala on the other hand is termed as a “darling” of ordinary people.
When he was the chief officer in the County, he was the bridge between Khaemba and ordinary people.
He sorted ordinary residents’ problems before even Khaemba knew that there were problems.
He is using elders to consolidate his votes come 2022.
Women representative Janet Nangabo who had declared interest in the seat last year has become mum over the same.
Businessman Moses Khaoya who vied as an independent candidate in 2017 says he is the man to watch.
Khaoya, the son of a former Minister has been crisscrossing the County but has so far stopped due to Covid-19 protocols.
