Kajiado West MP George Sunkuiya, his predecessor Moses Ole Sakuda and former Kajiado senator Peter Mositet have said Keekonyokie clan is not ready to receive garbage from Kajiado North.
The leaders are opposed to the decommissioning of the now full Ngong dumpsite to the Vet Farm where a multi-million waste management Plant is to be to be set up.
They now want Kajiado North residents and the County Government to throw the garbage to quarries in the area and not construct the waste management in any land associated with the Keekonyokie clan.
They claim the land where the project is earmarked belongs to the clans and they “have not been consulted”.
Mositet is quoted in a leading Weekend Newspaper saying, “The County Government can use the many abandoned quarries to dump its garbage. What is happening is unacceptable.”
He is also opposed to the project which Kajiado North residents are desperate to have it started to save them from the strong smell that has affected children at Ngong Township Primary School and worshippers at Ngong Catholic Parish.
The project will use modern waste management processes and employ more than 500 people from the area.
But Sunkuyia says he was not consulted and will not allow the project. He said, ” We will not allow the project.”
On the other hand, Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has vowed to ensure the project will not stop.
Two weeks ago, the county machinery moved to the site and started removing all the garbage.
Recently, the Governor lobbied the County Assembly to allocate Sh 100 Million to remove the dumpsite which is an eyesore.
Kajiado North MP Joseph Manje and all his MCAs are backing the project as well as the Catholic Church and education stakeholders.
The 20 acres land at Vet Farm was allocated for the project by the Ministry of Livestock Development in 2007.
