The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is worried that Kenyans are glorying corruption and other bad vices by being proud of them.
Busia Senator Amos Wako said Kenyans have lost their good morals and embraced “bad manners”.
Contributing to the topic on National values where the Building Bridges Initiative Task Force team was receiving views from Busia County residents, the former Attorney General said corruption and tribalism have negatively affected Kenyans.
“I get worried when a research is done in our primary and secondary schools, and pupils/students say that stealing and corruption is okay, provided you are not caught. We have a mindset of getting rich quickly; this is very wrong,” he said.
Former Kisumu Archbishop Zachaeus Okoth said there is need to build a new Kenya by embracing positive ethos which entails respect between the young and the old, understanding between Kenyans, cooperation and good neighborliness.
“It’s disheartening that homosexuality and lesbianism have taken centre stage in the country including schools. Cases of rape and incest are on the increase while women dressing code is wanting,” he said.
Some residents had expressed concern over the Senator’s long absence from the county.
In response, Wako said that for the next few months he will be in other parts of country with the BBI team.
“Even if you don’t see me around I will be contributing in building the county in one way or the other.” he said.
