Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has differed with Deputy President William Ruto’s Tanga Tanga squad over Executive Power and rooted for an Executive Prime Minister’s position.
The Governor said an expanded executive would enable political formations to cater for the interests of inclusivity among the divided Kenyan Communities.
“Apart from the President and Deputy President, we should create three more positions at the top,” said Governor Lenku.
The three positions the Governor alluded to are believed to be the position of Prime Minister and his two deputies.
This view goes against the common argument by Deputy President William Ruto’s supporters who have opposed creation of the Prime Minister’s position.
Governor Lenku is considered to have a cordial political relationship with both President Kenyatta and DP Ruto.
In a memorandum to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) in Kajiado Town this morning, Governor Lenku said inclusivity was paramount in restoring the dignity of marginalized communities.
He also said small communities must be protected from losing political leadership in their native counties.
“Politics must not just be about numbers. Protect the small communities to retain their dignity through retention of local leadership, “he said.
In the memorandum read on his behalf by Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho at Enchula Resort in Kajiado town, Lenku further said counties must embrace inclusivity and proposed no County Executive Committee should have members from only one ethnic community.
On Corruption, the Governor’s memorandum asked the BBI team chaired by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji, to propose a legislation that would make graft cases to last not more than twelve months.
“Strengthen the capacity of agencies that investigate corruption to ensure the cases they undertake can secure convictions in courts,” said the memorandum.
