On the day President Kenyatta ORDERED for a lockdown with the Nairobi metropolitan and several counties, Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku had already started to feel the heat of the lack of seriousness by residents in observing Social Distance as a measure to COMBAT the spread of COVID-19.
Earlier today, tens of Kajiado County askaris were deployed to various shopping malls, boda boda zones, markets and bus parks to enforce the rule.
The impromptu raid at the key trading areas was a follow up to a DIRECTIVE the Governor issued last week on business enterprises to ensure they were transacting with customers who were One Metre away from each other.
The askaris found some supermarkets such as Powerstar and Institutions such as Kitengela’s Equity Bank branch having crowded queues in complete disregard of the COVID 19 precautions.
The Governor had raised concern that locals had quickly adopted the “No Handshake” and the “Washing Hands” precautions but ignored social distancing which is the new challenge.
” We are very concerned that people have not complied with the One meter rule.It is now upon the business enterprises to ensure their customers observe this rule. We shall take action against those that don’t comply,” said Governor Lenku.
The Govenror said observing Social Distance was one of the major ways to contain the rising cases of COVID 19.
“The Ministry of Health has given very clear instructions. We are that stage of the disease where we are passing it to each other. We must keep away from physical contact with other people.”
Superintendent Patrick Kores who led the operation said it will continue until all shoppers, motor cycle riders, passengers and livestock traders and customers are safe.
