Lighting struck Apokor Vocational Training Centre in Teso South Sub County on Tuesday afternoon injuring one student.
Busia County Executive Committee Member for Education and Vocational Training Centre John Mwami received the news during a meeting of managers from all 25 public VTCs at Busia VTC.
The CEC said the lady student was sheltering with her colleagues when she was struck by lightning at around 4pm on Tuesday.
She was rushed to the nearby Amukura Mission hospital.
Mwami said he had liaised with the department of Lands and Urban Planning to ensure that spotted areas prone to lighting in Teso region are installed with lighting arrestors.
After enduring a dry spell for nearly a month, heavy rains started pounding parts of Busia accompanied by lightning and thunder.
Lightning is a violent and sudden electrostatic discharge where two electrically charged regions in the atmosphere temporarily equalize themselves, usually during a thunderstorm.
