A lobby group has launched an initiative dubbed Ondoa Mzigo to counter Ekuru Aukot’s Punguza mzigo.
The lobby group led by one Calystus Wafula claims Ekuru Aukots bill is shallow.
Condemning Aukot’s bill, Ondoa Mzigo Chairperson Calystus Wafula asked Kenyans to be cautious and avoid political leaders who want to amend the constitution to reserve their positions in government.
In his proposal, Wafula wants government officials convicted of corruption to step aside until their cases are concluded in court.
He said the trials should take 30 days and appealing not to go past 20 days and eventually if proved guilty, one must be sentenced to death.
The Ondoa Mzigo initiative seeks to ensure the offices of the Auditor General and the Controller of Budget are established at the County level.
Ondoa Mzigo wants the Salaries and Renumeration Commission (SRC) to operate as an independent office comprising of religious leaders and civil society representatives.
“In our Ondoa Mzigo initiative we want all elective positions from the President to ward reps just like state officials and public servants categorized and paid as per job groups and no allowances,” Wafula said.
He added that public debt should not exceed 40 percent of the GDP and recurrent expenditure should not exceed 30 percent of the total allocation per year.
“Opposition leader who garners second highest votes in Presidential elections must sit in Parliament,” he said.
Wafula said all nominated positions in County Assemblies, Senate and the women reps should be scrapped.
He said Ondoa Mzigo is proposing the Deputy President to be the leader of all government business and all cabinet secretaries should be appointed from Parliament.
Wafula and his group did not reveal who is funding them to counter Ekuru Aukot.
The lobby was mum on what they exactly it wants to achieve and how.
He did not also clarify if the lobby is collecting signatures in order to ensure the signatures are taken to the IEBC for verification then latter the bill is sent to the County Assemblies for adoption or rejection.
